Since the last few weeks, several incidents have sparked a nation wide fury in Pakistan as we have watched various horrific events unfold with emotions ranging from disgust, frustration, anger and despondency.
At IWEE our core vision is to collaborate to bring awareness to the underlying root causes impacting women’s empowerment throughout Asia and the Middle East – causes that have negatively impacted women from achieving equality in health, education, work and politics. These underlying roadblocks impede a woman’s progression in various sectors, thereby negatively impacting a country’s gender gap ranking. And they typically include gender based violence that encompasses but is not limited to: sexual harassment, rape culture, domestic abuse, misogyny, gender stereotyping, flawed social and cultural conditioning, economic and financial abuse, mental health, inequality of opportunities & resources, family pressure, online abuse & safety and other factors.
IWEE's latest campaign #HerAllies aims to to create awareness and positive dialogue and explore the role of organisations, religious bodies, government, media and other allies (men and women) in overcoming these barriers women regularly face in their personal and professional lives. We are often asked by well meaning men and women: 'But, how do we help?' We have hence come up with a three page manifesto outlining some of the things you can do as #herallies Time is up for blame games, for too long we have suffered in the hands of a gendered social and cultural environment. It's time to change the narrative!
Pledge allegiance to our campaign and do your part!
We aim to get this translated in languages of of the various countries we operate in and we also have short videos coming up highlighting different points of our manifesto. We need you stand by us because not only are we #inthistogether but together we make a difference!
